CANON

canon: Humility, a Lady of the Camellias fanfic
summary: Here and more specifically, here.
concept: The plot of Humility follows the ballet very closely with additional details from the book and Manon Lescaut's various canons woven into the rest. Main difference between the plot of the Neumeier ballet and the fic is how Marguerite treats her hallucination of Manon as a real person whom she believes to converse with and even, on several occasions, has sex with. This is an expression of her worsening state of sickness and how she is losing hold of herself in her affair with Armand. Slowly, she and Manon begin to merge in Marguerite's head, until she effectively believes herself to die in Manon's arms.
canon point: Can play from any point until Marguerite's death, defaulting to the first chapter/act.

“Should our lives be defined by the end we must suffer, an end which is in every aspect inescapable anyway, rather than our most blissful moments in which our hearts beat more strongly than ever, our lungs breathed more easily, our tears were few and our smiles many? That must count for more! Do you not count your joys? Manon!”
